羅斯（大衛·休默 David Schwimmer 飾）和艾米麗還是完婚了，但由於不能容忍生活裏還有瑞秋（詹妮弗·安妮斯頓 Jennifer Aniston 飾），最終兩人離婚了。羅斯搬出公寓，找到了跟大家很近新住處，但因為得罪上司而丟掉了博物館的工作。菲比生下一個男孩兩個女孩，希望留下一個孩子，但無奈弟弟不同意。一夜情後，錢德勒（馬修·派瑞 Matthew Perry 飾）和摩妮卡（柯特妮·考克斯 Courteney Cox 飾）決定秘密維持關係。直至被大家知道，兩人的戀情才公之於眾。喬伊（馬特·理勃蘭 Matt LeBlanc 飾）獲得一個做男主角的機會，但卻因為資金問題被迫停止了。眾人去拉斯維加斯看望喬伊，在飛機上羅斯和瑞秋再次重逢。錢德勒和摩妮卡決定在拉斯維加斯的小教堂結婚，剛到就遇到了酩酊大醉剛糊塗結了婚的羅斯和瑞秋......
