20年前，女子特雷西（Kt Fanelli 飾）被惡魔附身，當地教會組織了驅魔儀式，結果儀式失敗，兩名參與儀式的神父雙雙喪生，唯一的生還者，是當時擔任攝像的特雷西的兒子。一晃眼二十年過去，布蘭登（克裏斯·邁納 Chris Minor 飾）和同學克萊（Jake Brinn 飾）將這宗失敗的驅魔事件選定成為了他們的課題作業，兩人找到了當年的驅魔錄像帶，並且來到了特雷西的老家，決定在那裏重啟降靈儀式並且進行網絡直播。
最終，降靈儀式失敗了，但是布蘭登和克萊的所作所為引起了當地一個邪教組織的注意。之後，布蘭登震驚的發現，當年的特雷西竟然就是自己的母親，很快的，布蘭登就成為了惡靈覬覦的對象。
