主人公尼瑪將親生母親碾壓致死，無法抑製內心的悲痛和自責，帶著滲有母親血跡的一把黃土，隻身磕著等身長頭朝拜拉薩，卻依然沒有消解無時不在的悲痛和自責。返程途中，尼瑪遇見一位坦蕩執著、又空虛失落的老者，兩人穿行在茫茫戈壁灘，相互影響，相互救贖，終於讓主人公重新獲得生存的勇氣和自我的釋然，將滲有母親血跡的黃土撒在原來釀成慘劇的地方。
